I believe that in order to get through each day, you must enjoy the little things in life. When I say ‘little things’, I mean events that might happen daily or events that a person might not consider life-changing in the grand scheme of things. I believe enjoying these can bring ultimate happiness into each day we are to live because they occur much more readily than other bigger, more uncommon events.
Of course the meaning of ‘little things’ is different to everyone. For me, it means listening to music, spending time with family and friends, enjoying my favorite foods, or doing all three of these things at the same time. Of course, these are just a few of many things.
The Trap of Looking Ahead
Sometimes we get so busy with life that we try to get by each day and we look for that next big event to happen in our lives. There was a time where I saw each day as one day closer, instead of living each day to the fullest. For example, I know there have been times when I would count down the number of days left until I was able to go on a holiday. I would just try to finish each day because, in my mind, I saw it as one day closer until I got to step away from life and enjoy myself.
However, I realized that I could have missed out on what could have happened on the days leading up. I could have met a person who could have a huge influence on me and not realized it. When we take a step back each day and relish all the little things that happen in it, we get to truly see and enjoy the beauties of life.
Embrace Each Day
Therefore, instead of making it a goal to just finish each day and thinking of it as one day closer, I believe a person must just enjoy each day, and all of what’s included in it, as its own separate event.
- If you enjoy reading a book before you go to bed, make a point to do it.
- If you enjoy going on a run, make a point to do it.
- If you enjoy playing music, make a point to do it.
- If you enjoy talking and getting to know people, make a point to do it.
I could go on forever because every person has different things they like to do. What I’m saying is that in the grand scheme of things, each day comes and goes much faster than we realize. Each person has a certain number of days to live; thus, we must truly relish each day and every single thing that happens on a daily basis. Whatever you enjoy doing, do it as much as you can.
Cultivating Happiness
I can’t say that every day will be perfect, but I do believe that if you enjoy each day and all of the little things within them, you will live a more happy and positive life.
